Everett Alvarez, Jr. a distinguished Naval
officer and government executive, is
best known as the first American
aviator shot down over North Vietnam.
He was taken prisoner of war on
August 5, 1964, and held in North
Vietnam until February 12, 1973. He is
the recipient of many military medals,
including the Silver Star and the
Distinguished Flying Cross.
Mr.Alvarez served in program management at the Naval Air Systems
Command in Washington, D.C., until his retirement from the Navy in
1980. He subsequently served as Deputy Director of the Peace
Corps; and Deputy Administrator of the Veterans Administration
(VA).
He served as Vice President for Government Services with Hospital
Corporation of America until the fall of 1987 when he formed
Conwal Incorporated, of McLean,VA. Currently, Mr.Alvarez is CEO
for the newly formed consulting firm of Alvarez and Associates. He
has been honored by many community and civic organizations,
including having a Post Office in Rockville, MD and a high school in
California named in his honor. |
